This was a course I took to satisfy my Graduate Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR). The instructor was Sheri Deeter, who made the class very fun and interesting. We read several books, and wrote subsequent critical essays about them. We spent a large portion of the class focusing on post-colonialism and examined the history of several different colonized countries and the effects that colonization brought about in said countries culture, politics, traditions, and most importantly, literature. The books that we read were generally authored by native authors of a colonized country (India, Africa,etc.). My favorite book from this class was called A Long Way Gone (Memoirs of a Boy Soldier) by Ishmael Beah. In this class I got the chance to read many interesting books by authors from many different countries, and the class environment was very fun as we had open discussions about the books we were reading in almost every class session.
