KIN 161: Health and Well Being
This course will cover health and well being topics focusing on the health effects of stress, stress management skills, applied nutrition and core concepts in exercise and weight management. In addition to these core topics, the course will address the six dimensions of wellness: physical, emotional, intellectual, social, environmental and spiritual.
In this class we learned the importance of proper nutrition, exercise, as well as various stress management techniques in order to live a healthier, happier life. In the third week of class we did a physical fitness test. We ran a timed 1 1/2 miles and counted how many burpies we could do in 40 seconds. We will be tested again later in the semester with hopes of beating our previous times & counts. This class was taught by Yi Mao, and he was a very enthusiastic instructor who made the class fun, informative, and stress-free. We learned through lecture, videos, and discussion. We also did a group project. Each group chose a topic to present to the rest of the class. My group chose to do the effects of fast food on our bodies.
I learned some valuable information both through my group's presentation, and the various topics presented by the rest of the class. This class taught all of us some important, basic habits and actions that lead to a healthier and happier life. I took this course merely out of interest and to pick up a few extra units.
